Top Idaho MLB Draft Prospects: Jacob Pfennigs 'One of a kind'

30days-of-draft.jpg

1. Jacob Pfennigs, RHP/1B, Post Falls HS, Post Falls, Idaho (BA Rank: 320)
HS • 6-7 • 185 • R-R • Oregon State

Pfennigs is just your everyday athletic, 6-foot-7 basketball player/pitcher from Idaho who can touch 92-93 mph. In other words, he’s nearly one of a kind. The Oregon State signee’s best baseball is far ahead of him because he’s bounced back and forth between basketball and baseball—he scored 21 points in the Idaho 5A state championship basketball game this year. Pfenning’s stuff will need another tick to succeed in pro ball, as he’s pitching with a fringe-average to sometimes average 89-92 mph fastball right now and his secondaries need refinement. If he makes it to Oregon State, he could rise up draft boards in three years after he fills out and gains more strength.

2. Gage Burland, RHP, Lewis-Clark (Idaho) State (BA Rank: )
4YR • Sr. • 6-3 • 205 • R-R • Yankees '16 (24)

Burland has a big arm and this year he threw more strikes. His fastball has touched 98 mph, and this year he's struck out 38 in 23.1 innings with only 9 walks.

3. Kasey Bailey, OF, Lewis-Clark (Idaho) State (BA Rank: )
4YR • Sr. • 6-3 • 200 • L- • Never Drafted

4. Tyler McDowell, 1B, Lewis-Clark (Idaho) State (BA Rank: )
