Top 100 Signing Bonuses Of The 2022 MLB Draft

With the draft signing deadline now behind us, below are the players who signed for the top 100 bonuses in the 2022 draft.

Due to the structure of the draft with the way the bonus pools work, some of the top players end up going later on but still sign for bonuses well above slot that are more in line with much higher picks. The most notable example this year was Rangers righthander Brock Porter, a first-round talent who went in the fourth round but signed for a bonus commensurate with a first-round pick. The chart below can help contextualize a player's bonus relative to other players beyond just where he was picked.

The Orioles, Pirates, Rockies, Mets and Guardians each signed five players for top 100 bonuses in the draft, tied for the most of any club. The Dodgers and Phillies each signed one player for a top 100 bonus. The Dodgers didn't have a first-round pick this year and only had one of the top 100 picks (No. 40 overall), while the Phillies drafted outfielder Justin Crawford 17th overall but didn't have a second-round pick and didn't pick again until No. 93 overall.

Among the top 100 bonuses (technically 101 players with a tie for No. 100), most went to college players (60), followed by high school (37), junior college (three) and Kumar Rocker, who played with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the independent Frontier League this year.

You can find full signing bonus data and scouting reports in the Baseball America Draft Database.
