St. Peter’s announced Friday it has hired Danny Ramirez to be its head coach. Ramirez comes to St. Peter’s after nine years as the coach at Monroe (N.Y.) JC.
In a statement, Ramirez said he was excited to take over the Peacocks.
“Academic excellence has been a longstanding tradition at Saint Peter’s and I am looking forward to ensuring that the same excellence is achieved on the baseball diamond and within the community, as we work towards providing a quality college experience for our students and athletes,” he said.
Ramirez has spent the bulk of his baseball career, both as a player and coach, in the New York City area. Before coaching at Monroe, he was the head coach for two years at Globe Institute of Technology (N.Y.) JC and was heavily involved in New York’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program.
Ramirez takes over at St. Peter’s from T.J. Baxter, who resigned this summer after two years at the program’s helm. The Peacocks went 10-42 this spring and finished tied for last in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at 5-19.
