Prospect Report: Ryne Nelson Continues To Put Up Zeroes

Ryne Nelson, RHP, D-backs – Nelson pitched six scoreless innings with only two hits allowed, two walks and six strikeouts against the Dodgers in his second career start. He took the no-decision but has yet to allow a run in 13 innings to start his big league career.

Jeremy Peña, SS, Astros – Peña went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI to help lead the Astros to a 7-0 win over the Tigers. The rookie shortstop is now batting .340 (18-for-53) over his last 12 games to snap out of a miserable slump that saw him bat .197 over his previous 45 games.

Javier Assad, RHP, Cubs – Assad pitched six innings with one run allowed to lead the Cubs to a 5-2 win over the Mets and pick up his first career victory. The 25-year-old righthander has now held opponents to one run or less in three of his first four career starts.

Friday MLB Notes: D-backs 2019 Draft Bonanza Paying Big Dividends

Teams with previous bonanzas rarely hit on more than 2-3 of their picks. The D-backs, at this early stage, appear to have hit on nearly all of theirs.
