Prospect Report: Brendan Donovan Continues To Shine In St. Louis

Brendan Donovan, 3B, Cardinals – Donovan figures to eventually slow down. He just hasn’t shown any signs of it happening yet. The 25-year-old rookie went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored to help the Cardinals erase a five-run deficit and pick up a 7-5 win over the Pirates on Monday. Donovan got the comeback started with a two-run double in the sixth to give the Cardinals their first runs of the game, continuing his knack of coming up big for the Cardinals. He is now batting .310 with an .855 OPS in 41 games while playing six different positions for the Cardinals, establishing himself as a dark horse in the NL Rookie of the Year race.

Ezequiel Duran, 3B, Rangers – Duran continues to provide a shot in the arm for the Rangers since being called up earlier this month. The 23-year-old third baseman went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the Rangers’ 5-3 win over the Astros, including hitting the game-tying RBI single in the eighth inning to fuel a comeback victory. Duran is now 12-for-36 (.333) to start his big league career and has multiple hits in five of his first nine career games.

Alek Thomas, OF, D-backs – Thomas began his major league career on a hot streak before hitting the inevitable adjustment period and cooling down. Now, the 22-year-old center fielder is beginning to trend back up. Thomas went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in the D-backs’ 5-4 loss to the Reds on Monday, his third consecutive multi-hit game. He is riding a six-game hit streak overall and is 9 for 19 (.474) with more walks (five) than strikeouts (four) in that span.

Michael Harris, OF, Braves – Harris hit his first career home run in the Braves’ 9-5 win over the Nationals, launching a solo shot off reliever Kyle Finnegan in the eighth inning to cap the Braves' scoring. Harris took a 1-2 changeup off the outer half of the plate and drove it the other way into the Braves bullpen in left-center field, one of five homers Atlanta hit in the game.
