Oakland Athletics 2020-21 International Signing Preview

athletics-900x635.jpg

During the 2019-20 international signing period, the Athletics spent nearly all of their international bonus pool space on Robert Puason, a shortstop from the Dominican Republic who got $5.1 million. That amount tied Jasson Dominguez, a Dominican center fielder who signed with the Yankees, for the biggest bonus in the class.

In the upcoming signing period, the A's won't give that level of bonus, but their class will be primarily centered around Pedro Pineda, a tooled-up center fielder from the Dominican Republic. Pineda is 6 feet, 180 pounds and one of the best athletes in the class. He has excellent bat speed and stands out out for his combination of power and speed at a premium position.

Other players the A's have been connected to in the low six-figure range include righthanders Jose Perdigon and Moises Hernandez, outfielder Angel Arevalo and shortstops Dayker Baldallo and Ray Garret, all of whom are from Venezuela.
