LONG BEACH—The Nationals beat the Athletics 10-2 in the final game of the Tuesday session at the Area Code Games. It was the Nationals’ third game in which they scored double-digit runs.

The Nationals were lead by Jeter Downs, who hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning, his second homer of the event.

Of his home run, Downs said he wanted to be aggressive and saw an inside fastball.

Not to be outdone on the mound, Cody Greenhill impressed with a two-inning, five-strikeout performance. Greenhill said he wants to work on pitching out of the stretch with runners on base.

The Nationals’ offensive onslaught began with a two-run double by Mark Vientos in a six-run second inning.

Darren Baker opened the scoring for the Athletics with a two-run single.
