MLB International Games Planned For UK, Dominican Republic

The complete Collective Bargaining Agreement between MLB and the players union was made public Friday with some previously unpublicized wrinkles. One of those concerned big league games to be played internationally.

MLB already announced a two-game series will be played next April 17-18 between the Twins and Indians at Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

But according to the CBA, MLB will play an Opening Day series next season in Japan, a series in Mexico and/or the Dominican Republic, and then in 2019-20 play series in Great Britain.

MLB would only confirm that the Puerto Rico series is set, and that it "may have other announcements" on the other series mentioned in the CBA.

MLB recently dipped its toe in London, with former big leaguer Cliff Floyd and Carlos Pena headlining an "MLB Battleground" event in Hyde Park.

A series in the Dominican Republic would also be a major step, given that region is a rich feeder system for the big leagues.
