Harper, Souza Named Week’s Best

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was named National League Player of the Week and Rays outfielder Steven Souza was chosen as American League Player of the Week for the week of April 17-23, Major League Baseball said Monday.

Harper, 24, hit .550 (11-for-20) with 10 runs scored, four doubles, three home runs and seven RBI over six games. Baseball America’s No. 1 overall draft prospect in 2010 and No. 1 prospect in the game in 2011 and 2012 earned his fifth career NL Player of the Week Award with the effort.

Souza, 28, hit .414 (12-for-29) with five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, two home runs and nine RBI in seven games. BA’s No. 37 prospect in 2015 is tied for the AL lead in hits (26) and RBI (17) this season.
