LONG BEACH—The underclass portion of the 2016 Area Code Games began on Aug. 10 at Cerritos College and finished at Blair Field on Aug. 11-12 to wrap up the 2016 Area Code Games. The underclass portion of the showcase highlights the best freshmen and sophomore prospects in the country.

Game No. 5 Rangers vs. Brewers

The Rangers beat the Brewers 4-2 to open the second day of the 2016 Area Code Games for underclass players.

Bobby Witt Jr. (Heritage High, Colleyville, Texas)—son of the former major league righthander—went 2-for-4, including the game-winning RBI, and added a double for the Rangers.

Sanson Faltine (Richmond Travis High, Richmond, Texas) finished with two walks and two runs for the Rangers, including the game-winning run.

Nick Nastrini (Cathedral High, San Diego) started the game for the Brewers and pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Game No. 6 Athletics vs. White Sox

The Athletics beat the White Sox 5-2 in the second game of the Thursday session.

The Athletics’ Kyren Paris (Freedom High, Oakley, Calif.) had a standout offensive performance, going 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the fourth. He added a run and a stolen base.

His teammate Matt Clayton (Yuba City (Calif.) High) went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run.

On the pitching side, Sean Mullen (Stockdale High, Bakersfield, Calif.) pitched three scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Colby Gomes (Millard West High, Omaha) of the White Sox pitched three innings with five strikeouts in the losing effort for the White Sox.

Game No. 7 Brewers vs. White Sox

The Brewers came back in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the White Sox 7-6.

Noah Naylor (St. Joan of Arc Catholic, Mississauga, Ontario)—brother of Padres prospect Josh Naylor—of the White Sox put on an offensive show, going 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and an RBI double. He was a triple short of hitting for the cycle.

Julian Boyd (St. John Bosco High, Bellflower, Calif.) had the walk-off, two-run single to cap off the comeback for Brewers.

Chandler Champlain (Santa Margarita High, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) pitched well for the Brewers, getting three strikeouts in two innings.

Connor Van Scoyoc (Jefferson High, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) pitched four innings and had six strikeouts in the losing effort.

Game No. 8 Nationals vs. Rangers

The Nationals beat the Rangers 6-4 to close out day two of the 2016 underclass Area Code Games.

Ryder Green (Hardin Valley Academy, Knoxville, Tenn.) had two hits with an RBI and a stolen base in the win.

The Nationals’ Anthony Seigler (Cartersville (Ga.) High) pitched both right and lefthanded in his scoreless inning of work.

Joseph Menefee (George Ranch High, Richmond, Texas) of the Rangers pitched three innings, striking out eight batters and giving up only one run.

Logan Britt (All Saints Episcopal, Fort Worth, Texas) went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base in the losing effort.

Game No. 9 White Sox vs. Rangers

The White Sox and the Rangers played to a 2-2 tie to open the final day.

Logan Britt (All Saints Episcopal, Fort Worth, Texas) opened the scoring for the Rangers with an RBI in the bottom of the second inning.

Connor McCullough (Maumelle (Ark.) High) pitched three hitless innings and recorded two strikeouts.

Braxton Ashcraft (Robinson High, Waco, Texas) pitch two no-hit innings with three strikeouts.

Game No. 10 Brewers vs. Nationals

The Brewers shut out the Nationals 4-0 in the second game Friday.

Brewers’ pitchers put on a dominant performance, lead by Branden Boissiere (Poly High, Riverside, Calif.), who went two innings with four strikeouts.

Julian Boyd (St. John Bosco High, Bellflower, Calif.) continued his hot streak from the previous night by going 3-for-4 with a run.

Jake Moberg (Vista Murrieta (Calif.) High) added a double and a run for the Brewers.

Game No. 11 Nationals vs. White Sox

The Nationals scored four runs in the fifth inning to beat the White Sox 6-2.

Tyler Baca (Linfield Christian High, Temecula, Calif.) opened the scoring for the Nationals in the bottom of the third. Jeremiah Jackson (St. Luke’s Episcopal High, Mobile, Ala.) added three RBIs and a run.

Top prospect Jarred Kelenic (West High, Waukesha, Wis.) hit a home run in the first inning to continue his impressive showcase.

Game No. 12 Brewers vs. Athletics

The Brewers beat the Athletics 5-2 in the final game of underclass play.

Nolan Gorman (O’Connor High, Glendale, Ariz.) began the scoring for the Athletics with a RBI double in the first inning.

Gage Workman (Basha High, Chandler, Ariz.) added a grounds-rule double and run in the third inning. Workman also pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close the game.

Jake Miller (Newbury Park (Calif.) High) started the game for the Brewers and pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

The Brewers’ Julian Boyd (St. John Bosco High, Bellflower, Calif.) had five hits and three RBIs over the last two days of the showcase.
