Baseball America Prospect Report -- October 11, 2018

Peter Alonso, Mets -- After tying for the minor league lead in home runs during the regular season, Alonso launched his first longball of the AFL season on Wednesday afternoon in Mesa. Combine that blast with his moonshot in the Futures Game and his regular-season total, and Alonso is at 38 home runs and counting this season. He’ll be a welcome sight in Queens next year.

Andres Gimenez, Mets -- Not to be outdone, Scottsdale teammate and fellow Mets prospect Andres Gimenez went deep on Wednesday as well. He doesn’t cut as imposing a presence as Alonso, but he packs a sneaky amount of strength into his tightly-wound frame. He’s got the ability to play shortstop, but he could slide over to second base in the long-term and ultimately form a dynamic double-play tandem with Amed Rosario.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Blue Jays -- Of course, this wouldn’t be BAPR without a mention of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The hitting savant racked up three more knocks on Wednesday, bringing his two-day total to 6-for-9 with four doubles. The season isn’t even over yet, and the smart money should be on him taking home the American League’s Rookie of the Year award next year. It is an absolute joy to watch him hit on everyday basis.

Charles LeBlanc, Rangers -- After collecting four hits in a game just once all season with high Class A Down East, Rangers infielder Charles LeBlanc scalded four singles in his AFL debut on Wednesday.

Josh Fuentes, Rockies -- Rockies third baseman Josh Fuentes showed a mixture of power and speed in the regular season with Triple-A Albuquerque, notching 39 doubles, 12 triples and 14 home runs. He’s shown off the same sweet swing early in the Fall League, and notched two hits on Wednesday.

Vlad Jr., Eloy Jimenez Could Be 2019's Version Of Acuna and Soto

Rookies like Juan Soto and Ronald Acuna Jr. mesmerized baseball in 2018. And the game may have a sequel on its hands once Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Eloy Jimenez finally arrive.
