Baseball America Prospect Report—July 14, 2021
Logan Allen, Double-A Akron (Indians)—The 2020 second-rounder dominated the High-A level, with a 5-0, 1.58 mark, 67 strikeouts and 13 walks in 51.1 innings, leading to a promotion to Double-A on July 2. In his first start in the upper minors, Allen struck out six over four scoreless innings.
Owen Caissie, ACL Cubs—The 2020 second-rounder arrived from the Padres as part of the blockbuster trade for righthander Yu Darvish and he's off to an encouraging start in his pro career through seven games. On Tuesday, Caissie went 2-for-5 with his first career home run, a solo shot in the third inning of a win over the ACL Royals Blue. Caissie is 7-for-21 with three RBIs and nine walks.
Triston Casas, Double-A Portland (Red Sox)—Casas hit a two-run blast in the first inning to help Portland to a 9-3 win over Reading on Tuesday. The 21-year-old third baseman has not shown the same level of power since arriving in the upper minors, with five home runs in 44 games after hitting 20 in 120 games mostly at Low-A in 2019. Casas is hitting .268/.353/.409 with 28 RBIs and 21 walks.
Riley Greene, Double-A Erie (Tigers)—Greene smoked his 10th home run of the season to dead center field in a win over Bowie on Tuesday. The toolsy 20-year-old outfielder, fresh off an appearance in the Futures Game, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, raising his slash line to .289/.374/.498 with 36 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 55 games.
Trey Harris, Double-A Mississippi (Braves)—Harris went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and drove in three in a win over Tennessee. The 25-year-old outfielder hit a solo blast in the eighth inning to help pad Mississippi's lead. Harris is off to his best month of the season in July, with 14 hits in 41 at-bats (.341), three home runs and 12 RBIs. On the season, he's hitting .268/.336/.359 with 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
Robert Hassell III, Low-A Lake Elsinore (Padres)—Hassell turned in a three-hit game against Visalia, including a double, drove in one and scored twice. The 2020 first-rounder is hitting .370/.431/.500 this month, easily his best slash line of any month this season.
Elehuris Montero, Double-A Hartford (Rockies)—Montero has impressed since arriving in his new organization in the offseason trade with the Cardinals for third baseman Nolan Arenado, and the 22-year-old corner infielder added his 13th home run, a two-run shot, as part of a 2-for-3 day with three RBIs. Montero is hitting .271/.361/.517 with 41 RBIs in 59 games and should easily surpass his previous career high of home runs (16 in 127 games in 2018).
Brayan Rocchio, High-A Lake County (Indians)—Rocchio extended his hit streak to seven games in a shutout win over Lansing, with a 4-for-4 day including two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. The 20-year-old shortstop is putting up solid numbers in his full-season debut and has shown more pop, with seven home runs through 51 games, surpassing his previous career high of five over 69 games at the short-season level in 2019. He's hitting .271/.330/.438 with 25 RBIs and 13 stolen bases, but he's also shown more swing and miss, with a career-high 49 strikeouts.
Brent Rooker, Triple-A St. Paul (Twins)—Rooker put on a show on Tuesday, turning in one of the best performances of any minor leaguer this season. He collected four hits in six at-bats, including three home runs, while scoring four times and driving in seven in a blowout win over Columbus.
Peter Solomon, Triple-A Sugar Land (Astros)—Solomon has struggled in his first taste of Triple-A ball while pitching as a starter and out of the bullpen, but he turned in his longest outing of 2021 in a win over Tacoma. The 24-year-old righthander struck out eight and walked one over seven innings of one-hit, one-run ball. Solomon is 3-0, 5.24 with 53 strikeouts and 23 walks in 46.1 innings in 11 games (eight starts).
Bobby Witt Jr., Double-A Northwest Arkansas (Royals)—The 21-year-old shortstop continues to impress after making the jump to Double-A this season. He hit his 14th home run in a win over Arkansas as part of a 3-for-5 day with three RBIs. Witt is hitting .302/.379/.568 with 44 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 55 games.
