Arizona Fall League Prospect Report — October 20, 2021
Spencer Torkelson, 1B/3B, Tigers — Surprise, surprise, Torkelson just keeps on mashing. The top Tigers' prospect has been one of the best prospects in the AFL to begin the campaign, and he continued his tear on Tuesday. Facing Peoria, the No. 1 overall pick from 2020 went 2-for-4 with a double. His nine hits and .474 average each lead the Fall League.
Marco Luciano, SS, Giants — Much like Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers, Luciano entered Tuesday's feeling like bustin' loose. So he did. The top Giants prospect slammed two of Scottsdale's six home runs in a rout of Glendale. Luciano has juice to spare and showed it in spades in Low-A this year before earning a promotion to High-A Eugene. The two homers place him in a six-way tie behind Lars Nootbaar for second place in the league.
Curtis Mead, 3B, Rays — The fast-rising Rays prospect continued his early-season AFL tear by swatting his second home run of the season. So far, Mead's AFL output is looking like a lot like his regular season. In other words, a lot of contact and a lot of impact. He was 2-for-5 with the longball and two runs on Tuesday, and his six hits are tied for third in the league.
Triston Casas, 1B, Red Sox — Boston fans are riding high right now. Their big league team is fighting for a spot in the World Series, and two of their brightest prospects took huge steps forward in 2021. Casas has been outstanding in the early portion of the AFL, and on Tuesday he went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two walks. His fast start in the Fall League will only serve to further cement Casas' spot as one of the best overall young talents in the game.
