Baseball has its own switch-hitting ‘hit king’ in Pete Rose.
Now the SEC has one, too.
Mississippi State’s Jake Mangum set the SEC all-time hits record Saturday, breaking Eddy Furniss’ record of 352 hits within the conference. Mangum’s knock came during a 9-3 Bulldogs win, one of three last weekend in a Top 10 matchup with Georgia.
Mangum now has 355 career hits and is hitting .394 this season.
Coach Dave Serrano spent a couple minutes praising Mangum, a four-year starter at Mississippi State who he recognized as “a coach’s dream” while competing against him from opposite dugouts.
