Alabama State Coach José Vázquez Named 2024 USA Baseball College National Team Manager

USA Baseball announced Alabama State coach José Vázquez as the manager of the 2024 college national team Thursday.

Vázquez joins the team after serving as an assistant coach with the 2023 CNT and will bring eight years of head coaching experience to the national team this summer. During the 2023 season Vázquez led Alabama State to one of its best seasons in program history as the team went 41-18 and 26-4 in conference games while winning the SWAC East Division title for the fifth time in six seasons.

“José will do a great job representing all of college baseball in his role as the Collegiate National Team Manager,” said Eric Campbell, USA Baseball’s General Manager of Professional and Collegiate National Teams in a press release. “He made a great impression last summer as an assistant coach and is ready to add his name to the storied history of USA Baseball managers who have accepted the role of leading college baseball’s best in the national team uniform.”

Vázquez was the SWAC coach of the year in both 2022 and 2023 and has won the award three separate times in his seven years with the program. Prior to coaching, Vázquez played college baseball with Bethune-Cookman before he started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the program in 2003.

Since taking over as head coach with Alabama State, Vázquez has had a winning season each year and has an overall record of 201-139 (59.1%) and a conference record of 118-96 (55.1%)

“I am humbled by the opportunity to represent our country and manage some of the best college players in the nation,” said Vázquez in a press release. “I am grateful to USA Baseball for entrusting me with this task. I am also extremely happy that I get to represent Alabama State University and the Southwestern Athletic Conference at the international level. I know that it will be an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
