2017 MLB Draft Date Set

Major League Baseball has set the date for the 2017 draft, Baseball America has learned. This year's draft will take place on June 12, 2017, a Monday. In 2016, the draft took place on June 9, a Thursday. The 2017 signing deadline for draft picks has yet to be determined. With the draft moving off of the weekend, there should be less conflict with the 2017 College World Series. Super Regionals will be played the weekend preceding draft day. The draft last began on a Monday in 2015, when the Diamondbacks selected current Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson, who was in the midst of a run to Omaha playing for Vanderbilt. The complete draft order will be determined after the National League Wild Card game on October 5. One pick, however is known. The Pirates will receive the 42nd pick after failing to sign prep lefthander Nick Lodolo, who will instead attend Texas Christian.
