Drafted in the 6th round (178th overall) by the Boston Red Sox in 2016 (signed for $250,000)
A Sacramento-area prep product, Nogosek impressed both on the mound and as a starting quarterback as a senior, setting conference records for passing yards, passing touchdowns and rushing yards by a quarterback. His father Troy is a stock car driver and his sister Jessica a softball player at Long Beach State. He's a strong athlete at 6-foot-1, 183 pounds who has become the latest in a line of Oregon closers who include Jimmy Sherfy, Jake Reed and Garrett Cleavinger, all drafted in the first 10 rounds in the previous three seasons. Nogosek is the best athlete of the group and has some history starting, matching up with Oregon State and Vanderbilt in 2014, when he was a freshman and those two teams were loaded. His fastball has reached 96 mph and sits in the 92-94 mph range. He repeats his long arm action and possesses a plus curveball at 77-79 mph with downer action. His changeup is a usable pitch. While his delivery includes a head whack, Nogosek's athleticism and competitiveness may give him a chance to start as a pro as well.
