Troop is a college draftee who still feels like a high school projection pick. Scouts who are confident that what you see is what you get from Troop won't be nearly as interested as those who think that Troop''s best velocity is still to come. He has split his time between pitching and serving as Michigan State's designated hitter/first baseman, so there is some reason to believe the 6-foot-5 lefty could develop further once he focuses exclusively on pitching. A team believing he can add more velocity will take a shot on a strike-throwing lefthander with a plus changeup. He sits at 88-90 mph right now as a starter, touching 91. Troop's changeup is a weapon that generates a lot of bad swings. He also has a fringe-average over-the-top curveball. A redshirt sophomore who missed most of last year with a hand injury, Troop's excellent frame is why some scouts see more to come. Others can look at his somewhat stiff delivery and see him as a more finished product.
