Scouting Report

Schimpf has improved significantly over the last year and was moving up draft boards and garnering interest in the top half-dozen rounds. Last summer his delivery featured a ton of effort, but his delivery has improved and quieted this spring, giving him improved strike-throwing ability. Schimpf's fastball has been 87-91 mph, touching 92 for much of the spring, but has been more in the low 90s down the stretch, touching 94. He has always had feel for spin, and his curveball shows at least average potential, and he added a slider/cutter hybrid that shows potential. He shows feel for a changeup but doesn't use it often. He has a great pitcher's body at 6-foot-3, 201 pounds. The Texas commit draws rave reviews for his makeup and competitiveness.
