Cave was a 17th round pick of the Yankees back in 2014, but instead chose to go to college. He spent two years at Florida International, where he struggled with his control and posted an ERA near five. Cave transferred to Tampa for his junior year. His delivery has improved since high school, when he had more effort and a more exaggerated head whack, and his strikethrowing has improved as a result. Cave still struggles to command his pitches in a starting role, but shows electric stuff, especially in short bursts. His fastball has life on it at 93-95 mph out of the bullpen, and he has an out-pitch in his potentially plus breaking ball. Cave's 12-to-6 curveball shows late bite and power at 78-81. He hasn't thrown his changeup much but some scouts like what they've seen. Cave could have a chance to start at the next level, but most scouts see him as a power reliever who could profile in the seventh or eighth inning.
