Caraway entered the portal following his sophomore season in which he posted a .267/.350/.470 slash line with 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 47 RBIs, but he was excellent in the postseason and hit .325 with six home runs. Caraway went undrafted and subsequently committed to LSU. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 203 pounds, Caraway has a physical build with natural strength. He has present bat and hand speed, and his barrel accelerates through the hitting zone. He has a pull-oriented approach and has plus power to the pull side, but he also has enough strength to drive the baseball into the right-center field gap. Caraway will need to shore up his hit tool. Picking up spin out of the hand has been a particular bugaboo, and this spring he posted contact rates of just 58% and 54% against sliders and curveballs, respectively. He has also shown the tendency to expand the strike zone, especially against secondaries. -

Caraway ranked as a top-100 prospect out of high school after he broke 2017 No. 1 overall pick Royce Lewis’s single-season hits record at JSerra High in California. Despite his offensive performance and power upside, he made his way to campus at Oregon State where he hit well in 18 games in 2024 but dealt with injury. Caraway played a full season as a draft-eligible sophomore in 2025 and hit .267/.350/.470 with 12 home runs and a 23.1% strikeout rate as the team’s everyday third baseman. Caraway’s loudest tool is his raw power and bat speed. He generates tremendous force with his 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame and can hit towering balls to the pull side when he connects, with top-end exit velocities in the 114 mph range. That power comes with a questionable approach and pitch recognition concerns. Scouts note that Caraway’s swings look pre-determined at times and he can be an overly aggressive hitter who has real contact questions against secondaries. He hammers fastballs and has more than enough bat speed to be impactful against 93+ mph velocity, but needs to refine how he adjusts to soft stuff. Caraway is a fine runner, but not a burner and has the tools to stick at third base with more reps, where his plus throwing arm is a real weapon. He could be a fit in rounds 3-7 on draft day.

Caraway broke 2017 No. 1 overall pick Royce Lewis’ single-season school hits record with 49 as a senior at JSerra High in California. He played just 18 games for Oregon State in 2024 due to an injury, but made the most of it and hit .339/.431/.516 with seven extra-base hits and 10 RBIs. His 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame oozes physicality with a thick lower half and serious forearm strength. Caraway’s offensive potential is the best part of his game. He hammers the baseball to all fields with most of his power coming to the pull side and has an advanced approach. Caraway has loose hands and big time bat speed, a combination that makes for an extremely rhythmic swing. Caraway has shown the unique ability to hit for both average and power, which will profile nicely if he’s able to stick at third base as a pro.

Caraway is the latest draft prospect out of national prep power JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) High, which produced catcher Austin Hedges and 2017 No. 1 overall pick Royce Lewis. Caraway starred as one of impactful hitters on the summer showcase circuit and continued to mash this spring, leading the Boras Class in several offensive categories and breaking Lewis’ school single-season hits record while leading the Lions to their second-straight CIF title. Cararway is a strong, filled-out righthanded hitter with a sound, balanced swing and plenty of bat speed. He has a good feel for picking out pitches to hit and makes loud contact to all fields. He can pull balls with authority or shoot them hard the other way and projects to hit for both average and power. There is little doubt Caraway will hit, but his defense is a question mark. His lower half has thickened as he’s aged and he displayed slow feet, little range and poor reaction times at third base this spring. He has above-average arm strength, but he’s a below-average defender on the left side of the infield and will likely have to move to first base. Caraway is old for the class and will be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2025 if he reaches campus at Oregon State. His potential to be an impact hitter has teams interested in the second or third round despite his defensive limitations.
