Sowers is a scrappy 5-foot-10, 175-pound infielder who grows on you the more you watch him play. He doesn’t have loud tools or huge power potential but he puts together quality at-bats with sound swing decisions and a compact lefthanded swing that he uses to put the barrel on the ball consistently. He has solid balance and timing in the box and has a chance to be an average hitter, albeit one with well below-average power upside. A shortstop now, he probably fits better at second base because of a below-average arm. Many teams prefer to see a profile like Sowers’ prove his hitting chops in college and he could have the opportunity to do that and boost his stock in three years with North Carolina if he isn’t signed.
