Track Record: The Giants signed Diaz out of Cuba in 2023 and opened with a strong season in the Dominican Summer League, where he posted an .841 OPS. He moved stateside in 2024 and performed well in Rookie ball before moving to Low-A, where he hit six home runs in 55 games.
Scouting Report: Diaz has a decent set of tools—the loudest of which is a plus throwing arm—that could one day lead to a future as a solid big leaguer. He’s a twitchy athlete who fits as a fringe-average defender in right field. He does a good job making contact on pitches in the zone but could stand to chase a little bit less. When he does put the bat on the ball, he can make an impact. His 90th percentile exit velocity is 104.2 mph and he finished the year with 10 home runs in just 77 games between both his stops. He shows a particular weakness against breaking balls, which he missed at a 13% higher clip than his overall mark against all pitches. Diaz is a below-average runner from home to first but produces better speed once he gets underway.
The Future: Diaz will likely return to Low-A in 2025. He has plenty of interesting tools, but will have to greatly improve against breaking balls if he is to reach his potential as a second-division corner outfielder who hits toward the bottom of a lineup. If he doesn’t, he is not likely to escape the minor leagues.
