Track Record: McCusker’s long-and-winding road got its Disney movie moment on May 18 when he was inserted into the Twins’ game against the Brewers as a pinch hitter and then stayed in left field. It was an amazing moment for the massive 6-foot-8 outfielder who went undrafted out of Oklahoma State and spent three seasons with the Tri-City Valley Cats in the Frontier League. The Twins signed him and sent him to Class A in 2023 at 25 years old. He blossomed in 2024, reaching Triple-A while posting near top-of-the-scale exit velocities. An even better start to 2025 at St. Paul led to his first MLB callup.
Scouting Report: McCusker’s power got him to the majors. It’s the rest of his game that may keep him from being a starter. McCusker hits the ball exceptionally hard. He has hit a pair of 115 mph home runs this year at St. Paul, which is harder than any ball hit by a Twins big leaguer this season. He has excellent bat speed, and he’s worked hard to improve his plate coverage, although his long levers ensure there will always be some swing-and-miss to his game. McCusker can be beaten in the zone, but if a pitcher makes a mistake, he will punish it. McCusker will show average and even above-average speed once he gets going, but he takes a while to accelerate. That is apparent in the outfield, where he’s a below-average defender with an average arm.
The Future: McCusker is a useful on-call outfielder in St. Paul who can provide power in a pinch. He’s already 27 and doesn’t fit as a fourth outfielder, so he’s more likely to spend most of his time in Triple-A, ready to help if an injury strikes a Twins’ starter.

Draft Prospects
-
An extremely physical, 6-foot-8, 221-pound outfielder with raw power, McCusker has produced solid numbers for two years for Oklahoma State after transferring from Folsom Lake (Calif.) JC after the 2017 season. This spring McCusker was second on the team in hitting and put up a .316/.398/.532 line with five home runs and 16 doubles. McCusker has struck out around 30 percent of the time in his two years in the Big 12, and his long levers could continue to cause him issues with whiffs at the next level. He will be limited to an outfield corner and needs plenty of work to stick there in pro ball, but his frame and raw power give him some impact potential.
