The Dodgers drafted Bain out of high school in the 39th round in 2014 and he had a sterling freshman season at Cal, but coaching changes in the Golden Bears program led him to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona for his junior year. Bain immediately became a top starter for the perennial Div. II power, going 8-2, 3.57 with 94 strikeouts and 27 walks in 111 innings. Bain is accomplished but he lacks any pitch better than average, and his feel comes and goes. His fastball sits in the high 80s and he does not consistently get good downward angle on it, resulting in extra-base hits when he leaves it up. His mid-70s curveball is inconsistent. Most evaluators see Bain as an organizational righthander, but his 6-foot-4, 215 pound frame and successful track record have some interested.
