Scouts came into the spring excited about Gaddis after he made significant strides as a sophomore, including a 10-win season at Furman and four strong Cape Cod League outings, where he showed plus fastball life at his best. Gaddis' 1.89 ERA and 1.37 walks per nine rate ranked in the top 50 nationally in 2017, but scouts gave him mixed reviews for his spring season. His best attribute, fastball command, gives him a chance to start. He can pitch on the black at 90-92 mph and maintain that, having added present strength to his 6-foot-2, 195 pound body. He can reach back for 94 and pitches off his fastball, which most scouts grade as average. When he stays on top of the ball and drives it downhill, the pitch has the plus life Gaddis needs, because his secondary stuff--spike curveball, cutter, the occasional changeup--earns middling reviews. Gaddis has pitchability and profiles as a back-end starter, which gives him the value to go out as high as the third or fourth round.
