Track Record: So far, the Dodgers’ 2023 international class has been a bonanza. The crown jewel of the group was Joendry Vargas, but it also netted outfielder Eduardo Quintero, righthander Jesus Tillero and Sanchez. The righty pitched just six innings in the Dominican Summer League in his debut, then split his follow-up campaign between Rookie ball and Low-A.
Scouting Report: Sanchez is slightly built but has a quick arm and a pair of potentially plus pitches. His fastball sat around 94 mph, peaked at 97 and featured an average of 18 inches of induced vertical break. Sanchez’s best offspeed pitch is his changeup, a late-diver in the mid 80s with the ability to neutralize both righties and lefties. His next step will be to bring forward one of his two breaking pitches: a short slider in the low 80s and a curveball a few ticks lower. Neither pitch projects as average, but the slider is a touch ahead at this point. The biggest question facing Sanchez involves his frame and whether he’ll be able to pack on enough weight to carry a starter’s workload. He’ll pitch all next season at 20 years old, so he has plenty of time to work with the club’s strength and conditioning teams to add the required bulk.
The Future: Sanchez’s development will likely be a slower burn. He’ll likely return to Low-A for most of 2025, when he’ll continue reaching toward his ceiling as a back-end starter.
