Sands got a lot of visibility with scouts following his Salpointe Catholic High teammate Jio Orozco, and he wound up being drafted before the more heralded Orozco. Sands primarily played shortstop for the Lancers, but his infield actions and average arm profile better at second or third base. He has a line drive swing and gets the most out of his tools thanks to his work ethic, competitive nature and good mental approach to the game. Sands is committed to New Mexico.
Scouting Reports
After being exposed during the most recent Rule 5 draft, Sands has come back new man. He's posted the best offensive season of his career, mostly at Double-A Somerset, and has stuck himself firmly in the Yankees' catching mix.
