Huff started his career at Vanderbilt and struggled during the 2019 season where he flipped between a starter and reliever role, posting a 6.38 ERA over just 18.1 innings of work. After moving to Georgia Tech for the 2021 season, Huff pitched almost exclusively out of the bullpen, but his control held him back. This spring, he took a massive step forward with his control and stepped into a full-time starter role for the Yellow Jackets. His run prevention was still not great (6.98 ERA) but he managed the best walk rate of his career—striking out 23.3% of batters and walking 7.6%. Huff sits in the 93-94 mph range with his fastball and has been up to 97-98 at peak, with average riding life. Huff throws multiple high-spin breaking balls: the first a short-breaking slider in the mid-to-upper 80s and the second a curveball with more top-down shape around 80 mph. Huff has also worked in a mid-80s changeup, but he throws it for strikes less frequently than his other pitches and his breaking balls were both his most reliable bat-missers this spring. Huff’s overall college track record is not great, but he has arm talent and made strides with his command this spring and he has a large and physical, 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame.
