Chad Castillo

Castillo hit .353 over four years as a starter at mid-major California Baptist and showed he could handle higher-quality pitching when he hit .333/.469/.490 for Brewster in the Cape Cod League last summer, helping the Whitecaps win the CCBL championship. Castillo is a strong, 6-foot-4, 225-pound lefthanded hitter whose sum is greater than his parts. Though his tools don't pop at first glance, he is a skilled baseball player who does everything well. He has a simple, balanced lefthanded swing that produces a lot of contact and has the natural strength to hit for average power. Defensively, he impacts the game with surprising range in the corner outfield and has average arm strength. Castillo consistently plays hard and has a knack for playing up to the moment. His feel for the game allows him to get the most from his abilities and often outperform more gifted players.
