Franks played his first two years on Cal Poly's club baseball team before he made the school team as a walk-on in 2020. He spent two seasons in low-leverage relief for the Broncos before emerging as their closer this spring. He struck out 69 batters in 54 innings and notched 11 saves, the most by a Cal Poly reliever in five years. Franks is essentially a one-pitch pitcher who attacks hitters with a low 90s fastball that gets up to 96 mph. The pitch has exceptional riding life and high spin rates in the 2,300-2,500 rpms range to consistently generate swings and misses. He also has a below-average slider that he rarely uses, although it flashes promise at times. Franks graduated high school in 2017 and is one of the oldest players in the class, but his swing-and-miss fastball has teams interested at the back of the top 10 rounds.
