Fulgencio has one of the most interesting and circuitous routes of anyone in this draft class. He initially headed to Oklahoma State to play running back for the Cowboys in 2018, but he didn’t end up playing football. Eventually he ended up at Cowley County (Kan.) JC in 2020 as an outfielder. He hit .412 in very limited action that season before the coronavirus shutdown. He moved to the mound in 2021 and in 2022 he went 6-0, 1.83 with five saves and a 55-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 44.1 innings as the Tigers’ closer. Fulgencio is extremely old for the class (23) because of his unusual path to pitching, but he has a big league reliever mix with a 93-96 mph fastball and an average mid-80s slider. Fulgencio headed to the Cape Cod League after the season to give scouts more looks.
