Schrier was a standout high school prospect and product of SoCal powerhouse JSerra High who stood out for his well-rounded, polished game. He withdrew from the 2021 draft in order to make it to campus at UCLA, where he assumed the everyday shortstop role from the jump and then proceeded to hit .276/.363/.443 over the next three seasons. Now listed at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, Schrier has some untapped power potential thanks to impressive bat speed and solid strength, though he can get overly steep with his bat path at times. Most of his power has gone to the pull side. Schrier never hit more than the nine homers he managed in his freshman season, but there are some clubs who believe there’s more power to be unlocked at the next level. To access that pop, Schrier will need to make more contact against secondaries, which has been a bit of a struggle for him at UCLA. Like his prep days, Schrier still has just average supplemental tools with average foot speed, average defensive chops and average arm strength. His game tends to play up thanks to his baseball instincts, though some scouts expect him to move off shortstop to either third base or second in pro ball.

Schrier is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound shortstop with a well-rounded pedigree that dates back to his prep days when he was a multi-time member of USA Baseball’s national teams. He assumed the everyday shortstop role as a freshman with UCLA in 2022 and in his two seasons has hit a combined .292/.383/.483 with 15 home runs, 28 doubles and 17 stolen bases. Schrier has no obvious carrying tools, but he has the defensive chops to stick at shortstop at the next level and flashes enough power, speed and on-base skills to have a solid all-around package of skills.
