Thanks to the draft being cut to 20 rounds, Tennessee won’t have a chance to contend for any records for most players drafted in a single season, but the Volunteers will still likely be very well represented over the three days of the 2022 draft. It’s possible that almost the entire Tennessee lineup could get picked, including Ortega. A redshirt sophomore, Ortega had barely played before this season, but in 2022, he was a key part of Tennessee’s dominant regular season. He hit .323/.398/.672 with 18 home runs. Despite his impressive season, Ortega is seen as more of an average hitter with fringe-average power. He uses the middle of the field well. He’s an average runner. Defensively, he’s fringe-average at second with modest range.
