Buffett, a cousin of billionaire financier Warren Buffett, decided not to sign with the Astros last year as a seventh-rounder. That made him one of only two top 10 round picks in the 2016 draft to go unsigned. He returned to Oklahoma State as a senior trying to top last year's College World Series appearance. Unfortunately for Buffett, his season didn't go nearly as smoothly. Moving back to the rotation full-time for the first time since his freshman year, his fastball took a step back, as he sat in the high 80s more than the 88-91 mph he showed as a junior. His hard 80-81 mph curveball also was a little loopier this year. Buffett does have a potentially average change with good late fade. Buffett was much more hittable this year--opponents his .297 against him this year and his ERA climbed from 2.81 in 2016 to 4.83 in 2017. A team who believes Buffett's stuff can get back to what it was in 2016 will still get a solid senior sign, but he likely won't be offered nearly as much money to sign as he was a year ago.
