Jones arrived at Stanford as a two-spot athlete and played safety on the Cardinal football team as a freshman before dropping the sport to focus on baseball full-time. He spent three seasons as a starter in Stanford’s outfield and led the Cardinal to back-to-back College World Series appearances, including leading the team in runs (76), extra-base hits (38), stolen bases (15), on-base percentage (.455) and slugging percentage (.665) this spring through Super Regionals. Jones is a streaky hitter who tends to start slowly before heating up late in seasons. He's a patient hitter with excellent strike-zone discipline and plus raw power that he can access in games. He makes loud contact when he connects and has a knack for performing when the stakes are highest, especially in the postseason. Jones has a sound approach and plenty of power, but his swing is stiff and lacks natural rhythm and timing, leading to too many swings and misses. He struggles against pitches on the outer half in particular and is often late on hittable fastballs. He projects to be a fringe-average hitter, at best, and will have to make swing improvements to get there. Jones is a plus runner and above-average defender in center field with a loose, natural gait. His below-average arm is his weakest tool. Jones is built like a football player with his bulky, muscular frame and has little projection remaining. His power, athleticism and performance have teams interested in the top two rounds even with questions about his bat.
