Name: Keyshawn Askew
Born: Jan 5, 2000 in
Ht.: 6'4" / Wt.: 190 lbs
Bats: L / Throws: L
Drafted in the 10th round (292nd overall) by the New York Mets in 2021 (signed for $125,000)
Askew is a sidearming lefthander who mostly used a two-pitch mix this spring. He throws a fastball that sits around 89 mph but got up to the 92-93 mph range this spring, and scouts seem to like the spin metrics on his upper-70s slider. Askew has posted a 5.02 career ERA in his career at Clemson and this spring struggled to a 5.84 ERA over 57 innings and 11 starts in his first year in a mostly starting role. His strikeout-to-walk rate was strong (6.27), but he got hit around, and because of that some scouts think he’ll be better in a left on left specialist sort of role. Others think he has the strike-throwing ability to be sent out as a starter.
