Brian McAfee

A former starter at Cornell, McAfee pitched as a graduate student at Duke this spring after a medical redshirt afforded him another year of eligibility. Mostly a Sunday starter, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound righthander went 7-5, 4.11 with 65 strikeouts to 13 walks in 92 innings. McAfee boasts a four-pitch mix, locating his 88-90 mph fastball with above-average command from a three-quarters slot that generates late sink. He gets swing and misses on his curveball, but his slider is more of a show-me pitch and his changeup still needs work. Nothing in McAfee's arsenal is plus, but with his command and feel, he could be a fine organizational soldier with the makeup to become more.
