The start of the Major League Baseball season is less than two weeks away, which means summer camp is in full swing. That means there is plenty of time for prospects to compete in intrasquad and exhibition games. Each day during the week we will be providing a roundup from summer camp that includes highlights, debuts of 2020 draftees and more.

Arizona Diamondbacks

—Diamondbacks’ first-round pick Bryce Jarvis Tuesday officially signed with the team. The righthander has been on the 60-man player pool since the roster was announced in late June.

Atlanta Braves

—Braves’ manager Brian Snitker told reporters Wednesday that No. 1 prospect Cristian Pache has a right ankle sprain. Pache injured his ankle Monday during the team’s intrasquad game while attempting to steal second base.

—Snitker told Cory McCartney that No. 10 prospect Tucker Davidson developed a “nasty” slider after spring training was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Davidson’s arsenal features a plus fastball that reaches 97 mph, a plus 12-to-6 curveball and an average changeup, but the development of another above-average to plus pitch would raise Davidson’s ceiling as a prospect.

Chicago Cubs

—Cubs’ No. 27 prospect Christopher Morel Wednesday hit a double to left-center field and later scored on a Kris Bryant single. The third baseman was off to his best start as a pro in 2019 at South Bend before injuries limited him to just 73 games.

Chicago White Sox

Luis Robert Wednesday continued his summer camp tear, hitting an RBI double to score White Sox’s No. 4 prospect Nick Madrigal. Robert’s resume from the summer already includes a single, stolen base and a great catch from July 14, a single and run scored July 13 and a falling down home run July 11. Madrigal, meanwhile, earned appreciation for his hitting ability from all-star lefthander Lucas Giolito, and is making a case to be on the Opening Day roster.

—In addition to scoring on Robert’s double, Madrigal also made a heads-up play defensively. With runners on second and third, Madrigal scooped a grounder and threw home to prevent a run from scoring, showing off his 60-grade defense.

—Three days after Zack Collins had a two-hit game, the White Sox’s No. 15 prospect drilled a two-run home run to left-center field. Although Collins struggled in his major league debut and the team now has all-star James McCann and Yasmani Grandal ahead of him at catcher, manager Rick Renteria at the Winter Meetings complimented Collins’ swing and said he believed Collins had the talent to “catch at the major league level on a consistent basis.”

Detroit Tigers

—After making a spectacular catch to save a home run in left field July 13, Tigers’ No. 4 prospect Riley Greene Wednesday presented another sterling defensive effort, this time in right field, to rob an extra base hit.

Spencer Torkelson, the No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft, Wednesday picked up his first hit in summer camp with a line drive single to left field with two outs in the ninth inning.

Los Angeles Angels

Jo Adell, the No. 3 prospect in baseball, came back from an 0-2 count to triple off the left-center field wall in the team’s intrasquad game Wednesday. The outfielder missed almost two months last season due to hamstring and ankle injuries, but returned to rise from high Class A to Triple-A, hitting .289/.359/.475 with 10 home runs in 76 games.

—The Angels added righthander Denny Brady, the team’s seventh-round pick in 2017, to the team’s 60-man player pool. Brady was 3-9, 3.64 at high Class A Inland Empire in 2019 while appearing in 17 games and starting 10.

New York Mets

—Mets’ No. 10 prospect David Peterson Wednesday pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in the team’s intrasquad game, striking out outfielder Brandon Nimmo.

Pittsburgh Pirates

—The Pirates Wednesday added No. 4 prospect Liover Peguero to the team’s alternate training site in Altoona. Peguero was acquired in the trade that sent outfielder Starling Marte to the Diamondbacks.

—The Pirates also added to their alternate training site first-round pick Nick Gonzales, who has recent experience excelling with a wood bat. In the Cape Cod League last summer he hit .351/.451/.630 with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 42 games.

San Diego Padres

—Padres’ No. 4 prospect Taylor Trammell Wednesday made a leaping catch at the wall while playing right field to save a home run during the team’s intrasquad game. Trammell, who was acquired by the Padres in the three-team deal that sent Trevor Bauer to the Reds and Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes to the Indians, struggled to a .234/.340/.349 mark with 10 home runs at Double-A in 2019, but finished the year strong with a go-ahead grand slam in the winner-take-all game of the Texas League championship series.

San Francisco Giants

—Giants’ No. 2 prospect Joey Bart Wednesday crushed a double to the left-center field wall during the team’s intrasquad game. The catcher also threw a runner out at second base.

—Giants’ No. 12 prospect Will Wilson has taken advantage of his inclusion in the team’s 60-man player pool by working with coaches to change his swing to give him a more stable bat path, according to KNBR reporter Mark Sanchez. Wilson has also spent time picking the brain of veteran outfielder Hunter Pence.

Seattle Mariners

—Mariners’ No. 25 prospect Sam Haggerty Wednesday doubled twice in the team’s intrasquad game, including a two-run double. Haggerty later scored on a single. The Mariners claimed Haggerty off waivers following the 2019 season, which he spent with the Mets’ organization.

—Mariners’ No. 1 prospect Julio Rodriguez Wednesday hit an RBI double to deep center field. After the game, Seattle received a scare when Rodriguez hurt himself while running drills with the team, according to reporter Shannon Drayer. Drayer reports that the outfielder might have injured his wrist.

Tampa Bay Rays

—Rays’ No. 6 prospect Shane McClanahan Wednesday rebounded from giving up a home run to strike out two batters in his inning of work in the team’s intrasquad game, throwing 20 pitches.

Toronto Blue Jays

—Righthander Jordan Romano Wednesday struck out all three batters he faced in the team’s intrasquad game. Romano, who made 17 appearances in his major league debut in 2019, reached 98 mph on his fastball.
