Jordan Walden, rhp, Angels: Walden left his start on Monday with a strained right forearm, departing in the first inning without recording an out. Walden, 21, also missed a month earlier in the season with the same injury. Many times it’s a precursor to Tommy John surgery, though we don’t know yet what’s going to happen with Walden, whose ERA with Double-A Arkansas sits at 5.25 in 60 innings in the Texas League.

Angel Villalona, 1b, Giants: Villalona was supposed to represent the Giants along with lefty Madison Bumgarner at the Futures Game on Sunday. But Big V suffered a strained left quadriceps while running the bases on July 7 for high Class A San Jose. Villalona, 18, will be out for three more weeks. He’s struggled mightily in the Cal League, where he’s hitting .267/.306/.397 with just seven unintentional walks in 310 plate appearances. Then again, Villalona is two to three years younger than even the best prospects in that league.

Max Ramirez, c, Rangers: It hasn’t been a good year for Ramirez’s wrists. After missing two weeks in early June with right wrist soreness, Ramirez is now on the disabled list and rehabbing in Arizona with tendinitis in his left wrist. Ramirez has yet to play this month, but when he has played this year, the results have been nowhere near where they were last year. Ramirez, 24, is batting .238/.308/.332 in 56 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Jenrry Mejia, rhp, Mets: Mejia is on the DL and didn’t pitch in the Futures Game due to a strained right middle finger, according to BA correspondent Adam Rubin. Mejia, 19, has already reached Double-A, where he has struck out 24 batters in 21 2/3 innings with a fastball that can scrape the high-90s.

Brad Mills, lhp, Blue Jays: Mills’ last start with Triple-A Las Vegas on July 2 was outstanding—eight shutout innings, seven strikeouts with one walk and two hits allowed against Reno. But now Mills is on the DL with bruised ribs. Mills got hammered in two big league starts last month, but he’s been solid in Triple-A with a 4.06 ERA in 84 1/3 innings with 72 strikeouts and 35 walks.

Daryl Jones, lf, Cardinals: Jones has played in just two games this month as he’s been on the DL with a quad injury. That didn’t stop him from playing in the Futures Game in St. Louis, his potential future home park. The Cardinals had removed Jones, 22, from the DL prior to the game, but placed him back on it afterward with a strained quadriceps.

Jordan Parraz, rf, Royals: Parraz has been a pleasant surprise in the Royals’ farm system, but he’s currently on the DL with a hamstring injury. Parraz hasn’t played since June 22, but when healthy he has torn through the Double-A Texas League. Parraz, 24, is hitting .358/.451/.553 in 64 games. He controls the bat well, having struck out just 25 times in 268 plate appearances.

Will Smith, lhp, Angels: After going on the DL in April with a strained left hamstring, Smith is back on the DL with a lower back strain. Smith, who turned 20 on Friday, has emerged as one of the Angels’ most promising young pitchers. At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, Smith pounds the strike zone with a fastball up to the low-90s, having issued just 19 walks (1.9 per nine innings) in 90 1/3 innings for low Class A Cedar Rapids to go with 75 strikeouts and a 3.29 ERA.

Quick Hits: Red Sox righthander Michael Bowden went on the DL, but the team made the move just to give Bowden a couple of weeks off in the middle of the season . . . Orioles righthander Tim Bascom is on the DL with a sore right knee .  . . Athletics righthander Michael Ynoa will begin a throwing program later this month to rehab an injured right elbow.
