Jay Bruce kept racking up the hits, Michael Hollimon clubbed a walk-off homer, Chase Headley emerged from his funk and Greg Reynolds pitched an abbreviated game before being called up to Colorado.

INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE
Prospect Of The Day
For a 21-year-old prospect burdened with great expectations, Louisville center fielder Jay Bruce (Reds) sure is consistent. He went 4-for-5 last night with a double (his fourth) and two runs scored in the Bats’ 8-4 win against Norfolk. And in his last three games, Bruce has eight hits in 13 at-bats.
The top prospect in the land is batting .320/.343/.541 with five homers, four doubles, four triples and seven steals in seven tries (and he leads the IL with 39 hits), but it’s his against lefties (.333/.317/.513) and his knack for avoiding prolonged slumps (his longest hitless games streak is three) that stand out. If there’s one thing Bruce could stand to improve upon, though, it’s his walk-to-strikeout ratio, which stands at 7-to-30. He’s got plenty of time.
Prospect Nuggets
Indianapolis CF Andrew McCutchen (Pirates) missed his second consecutive game while recovering from the flu . . . Toledo 2B Michael Hollimon (Tigers) continues to make his hits count. He clubbed a walk-off solo home run in the 10th inning of last night’s game against Lehigh Valley. He’s batting just .235 but his slugging percentage stands at a lofty .544. Of his 16 hits, 11 have gone for extra bases (four homers, five doubles, two triples) . . . Charlotte 2B Chris Getz (White Sox) has three multi-hit games in his last five games, and is hitting .333/.333/.476 in that time. He was 2-for-4 last night with two doubles (eight) and a run scored.
What To Watch For Today
Richmond RHP Charlie Morton (Braves) is off to a fine start (1-0, 2.14, 33 2/3 IP, 26 SO, 13 BB, 0 HR) and the big league club may need him before the year is through. He throws against Indianapolis today at 1 p.m . . . Rochester RHP Kevin Mulvey (Twins) carried a 1.16 ERA into his fifth start of the year, but he’s been rocked for 11 runs in 9 2/3 innings since then. He opposes Columbus RHP Tyler Clippard (Nationals) today at 11:30 p.m.
PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE
Prospect Of The Day
It’s been a trying first few weeks for Portland left fielder Chase Headley (Padres), who batted just .242/.317./396 in 23 April games. But after going 2-for-3 with his 10th double yesterday, he’s now batting .379/.471/.552 in May. Headley has collected hits in six of his past eight games, going 14-for-34 in that span.
Headley, 23, has battled to his current season line of .275/.356/.433, but he’s struggled to drive the ball at home, where he’s batting .265/.351/.368.
Prospect Nuggets
The Rockies called up Colorado Springs RHP Greg Reynolds, who was removed after two innings and 23 pitches yesterday, to start in place of Mark Redman on Sunday. The No. 2 overall pick in 2006 from Stanford, Reynolds went 1-2, 4.86 with 16-9 K-BB in 33 innings for the Sky Sox, but with an impressive 2.52 G/F ratio. Even more impressive, he was 1-1, 4.11 in 15 innings at home . . . Colorado Springs 3B Ian Stewart (Rockies) was 2-for-4 yesterday with a pair of home runs (off Round Rock RHP Chad Reineke) and six RBIs . . . Memphis RHP Chris Perez (Cardinals) struck out two batters in an inning of work, walking one and not allowing a hit. The St. Louis closer-in-waiting has notched eight saves this season in 15 2/3 innings of work (1.72 ERA). His Redbird teammate CF Colby Rasmus was 0-for-5 and now is hitless in his last four games, covering 13 at-bats.
What To Watch For Today
Yesterday’s LHP Gio Gonzalez (A’s)-RHP Dustin Nippert (Rangers) never materialized. Sacramento and Oklahoma will play a doubleheader today.
