Twins See Adrian Bohorquez As One Of ‘Best Arms’ In System

Righthander Adrian Bohorquez made just five appearances at High-A Cedar Rapids, plus a Midwest League playoff start that lasted less than an inning because of a long power outage. Yet, he still left a strong impression.

In those 23 innings, Bohorquez showed enough potential that people inside the organization view him as a breakout candidate in 2026. He posted a 3.52 ERA after he was promoted from Low-A in August, totaling 28 strikeouts and six walks.

“What I’m incredibly proud of him for is he dealt with walks early on in Low-A,” Twins farm director Drew MacPhail said. “He continued to get in shape and continued to really work hard with our pitching group on his command training. In High-A, he walked 6%, which is incredibly impressive.”

Bohorquez, who signed for $10,000 out of Venezuela in 2023, has a starter’s build at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. His fastball sat around 95 mph and touched 98 mph at the end of the season. He mixes a slider around 88-90 mph, a hard curveball at 80-83 and he’s working on developing a changeup.

“He’s right in the mix as one of our best arms,” MacPhail said.

Bohorquez, who will turn 21 in March, had middling numbers at Low-A Fort Myers because of his issues with walks. He yielded a 4.66 ERA in 48.1 innings with 57 strikeouts and 25 walks. He held opposing hitters to a .192 average, underscoring the quality of his pitches.

Once he reduced his walks, the results followed. In his last seven outings at Low-A prior to his promotion, he had a 1.91 ERA with a 29% strikeout rate and a 7% walk rate.

“Just trusting his stuff and throwing it over the heart of the plate because his stuff is electric and it’s really going to play,” MacPhail said. “He doesn’t have to be too fine with it.”

If Bohorquez can improve his changeup, which flashes “really impressive depth,” according to MacPhail, the Twins see big upside.

“He needs to get a little bit better at landing it in the zone, which I think is going to help tick up the swing and miss,” MacPhail said.
