Trent Grindlinger, one of the top players in the 2025 class, has flipped his commitment from Mississippi State to Tennessee.

Grindlinger ranks No. 26 in the 2025 high school class and is the No. 101 prospect overall for the 2025 MLB Draft. While there’s still a risk the Volunteers could lose Grindlinger to the draft, they would be getting a top five catcher in the country if he makes it to campus. Grindlinger’s full scouting report is available here for BA subscribers.

Grindlnger is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound righthanded hitter at Huntington Beach (Calif.) High and adds to a position at catcher that was relatively lighter in Tennessee’s recruiting class. Tennessee’s class includes shortstops Billy Carlson and Steele Hall and two-way player Kruz Schoolcraft, all of whom could be first-round picks this year. Lefthander Cameron Appenzeller, shortstop Ethan Moore, first baseman Evan Hankins and outfielder Taylor Tracey are among the other big names for 2025 committed to Tennessee.

Grindlinger had previously been committed to Mississippi State, which fired head coach Chris Lemonis on April 28. Grindlinger’s younger brother, lefthander/outfielder Jared Grindlinger, is the No. 3 player in the 2027 class.
