Topps MVP Buyback: Get Your Shohei Ohtani & Aaron Judge Topps Chrome Cards Ready
UPDATE: Ohtani and Judge did, indeed, win MVP honors.
Technically, there are still six finalists for the NL and AL MVP awards leading up to the announcement this Thursday—Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Bobby Witt Jr., Shohei Ohtani, Francisco Lindor and Ketel Marte—but the smart money for months has been on Judge and Ohtani.
Many baseball card collectors have been hoarding Judge and Ohtani cards for months now from the 2024 Topps Chrome release. Why? Once the MVP announcements are official on Thursday night, they will be able to turn those cards into smart money, thanks to Topps’ MVP Buyback program.
The hugely-popular program offers collectors the chance to redeem 2024 Topps Chrome cards of the MVP winners in each league for credit at hobby stores and major retailers. Participating retailers will be offering $20 credit for a base card, $40 for refractors and then increased amounts for rarer parallels, all the way up to $1,000 in credit for an insert of the 2023 Ohtani buyback card (numbered to 50) in celebration of him winning what would be his second straight MVP.
Retailers will start offering credit for the cards once the MVP announcements are official, and the program runs until Jan. 30, 2025.
In addition to the regular 2024 Topps Chrome release, Chrome Logofractor cards are included as part of the program. Other Topps Chrome products, such as Cosmic Chrome and Chrome Sapphire, are not.
