With the MLB international signing period opening today, teams can officially begin to sign players in their 2025 class.

For Baseball America subscribers, we have scouting reports and player notes on the classes for all 30 teams, providing information on the big names to know in each class, as well as deeper cut players to watch.

The Giants are tied with the Dodgers for the smallest bonus pool to begin the 2025 signing period, but they are signing the player several scouts consider to be the best player available, Dominican shortstop Josuar Gonzalez, who signed for $3 million. He’s a premium athlete with quick-twitch actions both at the plate and in the field. He projects to stick at shortstop with the tools to develop into a plus defender. He’s 5-foot-11, 175 pounds with a quick first step, good range, hands, footwork and arm strength. He’s a switch-hitter with fast hands at the plate, showing home run power to his pull side from both sides of the plate with the bat speed to project more of his doubles to start climbing over the fence as he fills out. Scouts highest on Gonzalez praised his hitting ability as well, with the upside to hit toward the top of the lineup and use his plus-plus speed that should translate to high stolen base totals.

Outfielder Djean Macares is signing for $1.1 million, the highest bonus this year for a player from Aruba. He’s a lefty who is 5-foot-10, 180 pounds and is an advanced hitter with a smooth, easy swing with a knack for finding the barrel. His size doesn’t portend big power numbers, so it’s a hit-over-power profile with a line-drive approach and gap power that should still tick up. He’s a fringe-average runner who could see time in center field, where he moves around well, but he could move around to spend more time in the corners as he gets closer to the big leagues.

Yulian Barreto is a defensive-oriented shortstop from Venezuela. He could develop into an above-average fielder there with good actions and a plus arm. At 5-foot-9, 160 pounds, Barreto is a smaller player who doesn’t have a ton of physical upside to ever project for much power, but he’s a righthanded hitter with a quick stroke who doesn’t swing and miss much, spraying line drives around the field with doubles power.

Venezuelan catcher Carlos Martinez is a switch-hitter with a low swing-and-miss rate and an easy swing from both sides of the plate. He’s 5-foot-10, 170 pounds and projects to stay behind the plate with advanced catch-and-throw skills.
