The Spring Breakout Series is right around the corner, giving fans a glimpse into the future of the game. Paul Skenes, Jackson Chourio and Jackson Holliday played in the inaugural version of the showcase last year.
Schedules were released this morning, now it’s time to debate where each roster ranks. Below is a ranking that examines each team, players to note and an intrigue factor rating on the 20-80 scouting scale. This is a subjective perspective on which rosters we consider the most talented and exciting for the Breakout Series games.

1. Red Sox
Top 100 prospects: 3
Notable stars: Roman Anthony, Kristian Robinson, Marcelo Mayer, Franklin Arias, Jhostynxon Garcia and Yoeilin Cespedes
Intrigue factor: 80
With three of baseball’s 25 best prospects set to play in the game, the Red Sox land the top spot. Roman Anthony was one of the most dominant players in the minors in 2024, Kristian Campbell’s ascension impressed the entire industry and Marcelo Mayer has looked sharp when healthy. This is a great opportunity to see three potential pillars of Boston’s future in action.
2. Mariners
Top 100 prospects: 6
Notable stars: Colt Emerson, Lazaro Montes, Cole Young, Harry Ford, Felnin Celesten and Michael Arroyo
Intrigue factor: 80
The lower levels of the Mariners system has produced some really exciting players: Lazaro Montes, Felnin Celesten and Michael Arroyo. Meanwhile, Colt Emerson, Cole Young and Harry Ford showed plenty of promise and potential in the higher levels. Jonny Farmelo, who is recovering from an ACL injury, is a notable absence.
3. White Sox
Top 100 prospects: 5
Notable stars: Noah Schultz, Kyle Teel, Colson Montgomery, Braden Montgomery and Hagen Smith
Intrigue factor: 75
A lot can change in a year. The White Sox had one of the more bleak Spring Breakout rosters a year ago. The 2025 version provides more excitement. Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith are two of the best lefthanded pitching prospects in the game. Kyle Teel, who joined the team in the Garrett Crochet trade, has already homered off Roki Sasaki this spring.
4. Rays
Top 100 prospects: 6
Notable stars: Carson Williams, Xavier Isaac, Brayden Taylor, Tre’ Morgan and Chandler Simpson
Intrigue factor: 75
The Rays have a promising system, but the inclusion of Carson Williams makes this roster that much more interesting. Xavier Isaac and Brayden Taylor dominated alongside each other last season, combining for 38 home runs between High-A and Double-A. Chandler Simpson’s speed alone should capture your attention, as he became the first minor league player to steal 100 bases since 2012.
5. Dodgers
Top 100 prospects: 4
Notable stars: Zyhir Hope, Josue De Paula, Jackson Ferris and Emil Morales
Intrigue factor: 75
The Dodgers were a favorite to land the top-ranked roster, but the exclusion of Roki Sasaki, Dalton Rushing and Alex Freeland hinders them a bit. Regardless, outfielders Zyhir Hope and Josue De Paula performed well last year. Jackson Ferris is the best pitcher in the system outside of Sasaki, who is expected to be on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster.
6. Guardians
Top 100 prospects: 4
Notable stars: Travis Bazzana, Jaison Chourio, Angel Genao and Ralphy Velazquez
Intrigue factor: 70
Travis Bazzana, last year’s draft’s No. 1 overall pick, is the headliner for this roster. Jaison Chourio, Jackson’s younger brother, makes his second Spring Breakout appearance and was the organization’s Minor League Player of the Year. Angel Genao put up some of the more impressive numbers in the club’s lower levels in 2024.
7. Tigers
Top 100 prospects: 4
Notable stars: Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle, Bryce Rainer, Thayron Liranzo and Josue Briceño
Intrigue factor: 70
Even with the absence of Jackson Jobe, Max Clark is one of the most exciting prospects in all of baseball, and it shows in his electric play. Kevin McGonigle has improved both as a hitter and defensively. This will be Bryce Rainer’s professional debut after the Tigers drafted him 11th overall last summer.
8. Rockies
Top 100 prospects: 3
Notable stars: Chase Dollander, Charlie Condon, Cole Carrigg, Robert Calaz and Brody Brecht
Intrigue factor: 70
Charlie Condon didn’t have the best introduction to affiliated ball, but given that he hit the most home runs in college baseball (37) last season, his pop could put on a show. Cole Carrigg was one of the best overall hitters in Colorado’s system, while Chase Dollander is the organization’s best pitching prospect and their reigning Minor League Player of the Year.
9. Marlins
Top 100 prospects: 2
Notable stars: Thomas White, Starlyn Caba, Noble Meyer, Agustin Ramirez and Andrew Salas
Intrigue factor: 70
Miami is the only team with all of Baseball America’s Top 30 Prospects rostered for the game. Thomas White is the second-best lefthanded pitching prospect and has become even better after incorporating a slider with a sweepier break. Agustin Ramirez was the centerpiece in the trade that sent Jazz Chisholm to the Yankees, and we’ll get a better look at last year’s first-round selection PJ Morlando, who had just one at-bat in Low-A last year.
10. Reds
Top 100 prospects: 2
Notable stars: Chase Burns, Sal Stewart, Cam Collier, Edwin Arroyo and Chase Petty
Intrigue factor: 70
Burns didn’t appear in games last season after the Reds selected him third overall, but he made his spring training debut on Wednesday and could bring plenty of sizzle to this game. Cam Collier hit the first homer in Spring Breakout history last year, and Sal Stewart provides a thump in the lineup. Chase Petty regained his velocity and blended it well with his breaking pitches and is the next best arm on the Reds’ roster.
11. Brewers
Top 100 prospects: 3
Notable stars: Jesus Made, Jacob Misiorowski, Cooper Pratt, Eric Bitonti and Yophery Rodriguez
Intrigue factor: 70
Jesus Made alone is worth the price of admission. His production in the Dominican Summer League a year ago puts him in line with other notable stars. The club’s top arm Jacob Misiorowski, equipped with a fastball that can reach 100 mph, is slated to start the game, and Cooper Pratt laid out a strong foundation this past season by hitting .295 in 73 games at Low-A.
12. Phillies
Top 100 prospects: 3
Notable stars: Aidan Miller, Justin Crawford, Eduardo Tait and Moisés Chace
Intrigue factor: 65
Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford—who is the son of Carl Crawfor—put up some impressive numbers alongside each other in High-A and are poised to have strong seasons this year. Eduardo Tait has a chance to be a power-hitting catcher in the majors. Moisés Chace’s fastball has 18.5 inches of induced vertical break, making it a nightmare for hitters. The Phillies made it clear that they are going to be patient with Andrew Painter, but if he were on this roster, they would have ranked higher.
13. Athletics
Top 100 prospects: 2
Notable stars: Nick Kurtz, Colby Thomas, Luis Morales, Denzel Clarke and Tommy White
Intrigue factor: 60
It only took Nick Kurtz 12 games to reach Double-A after going fourth overall in last year’s draft. Colby Thomas, the reigning A’s Minor League Player of the Year, smashed 31 homers with his 60-grade power. Luis Morales was the club’s lone representative in last year’s Futures Game and can be dangerous with a fastball that touches 97 mph, the highest velocity of any A’s minor league starter, when he’s locating in the zone.
14. Pirates
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Bubba Chandler, Konnor Griffin, Termarr Johnson, Hunter Barco and Wyatt Sanford
Intrigue factor: 60
Paul Skenes took the bump for the Pirates in last year’s game. This year, it’s Bubba Chandler, who has ascended as the Pirates’ top arm with his blazing fastball. Pittsburgh’s 2024 first-round draft pick Konnor Griffin was Baseball America’s High School Player of the Year and has 30-30 potential. Termarr Johnson struggled in 2024, but he can be an elite power hitter if he can cut down his strikeout rate.
15. Padres
Top 100 prospects: 2
Notable stars: Leodalis De Vries, Ethan Salas, Kash Mayfield, Boston Bateman and Cobb Hightower
Intrigue factor: 60
The Padres roster last year was a prospect maven’s dream, but with the graduation and departure of some of those players, Leodalis De Vries and Ethan Salas carry a lot of weight here. This will also be the first look at San Diego’s 2024 first-round selection Kash Mayfield, who’s seen an increase in his fastball velocity.
16. Mets
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Jett Williams, Carson Benge, Ryan Clifford, Jonah Tong
Intrigue factor: 55
The Mets have a strong farm system, but the absence of Nolan McLean, Jesus Baez and Brandon Sproat knocks their ranking down. Jett Williams battled a wrist injury last season but is still their top prospect. Ryan Clifford still has significant potential, a half his plate appearances in 2024 ended with a walk, strikeout or home run.
17. Giants
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Bryce Eldridge, Carson Whisenhunt, James Tibbs III, Jhonny Level and Dakota Jordan
Intrigue factor: 55
Bryce Eldridge already made a strong first impression by reaching Triple-A in his first full season with the Giants at just 19 years old. He made an even stronger note by smashing a titanic homer during spring training. Jhonny Level was one of the more impressive players in the Dominican Summer League last season, as he was just one of five players to hit at least 10 homers in the circuit. Carson Whisenhunt was put to the test last season when he pitched over 100 innings for the first time in his career.
18. Royals
Top 100 prospects: 2
Notable stars: Jac Caglianone, Blake Mitchell, Carter Jensen, Ben Kudrna and Noah Cameron
Intrigue factor: 50
Jac Caglianone and Blake Mitchell (currently injured) are the headliners for this group, but Carter Jensen had a strong showing too. Ben Kudrna and Noah Cameron are promising arms that will get a shot to prove themselves against strong competition.
19. Rangers
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Sebastian Walcott, Malcolm Moore, Winston Santos, Emiliano Teodo and Alejandro Osuna
Intrigue factor: 50
Sebastian Walcott has the athleticism and potential to be a star for the Rangers down the road with his 60-grade power and incredible arm strength. Emiliano Teodo posted a 1.98 ERA in 20 games last season, using his tantalizing fastball that can reach 100 mph.
20. Nationals
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Jarlin Susana, Brady House, Seaver King, Alex Clemmey and Luke Dickerson
Intrigue factor: 50
The Juan Soto trade has already seen James Wood, C.J. Abrams and MacKenzie Gore develop into big leaguers. Jarlin Susana and his triple-digit fastball could be the cherry on top of the Nationals’ haul. Washington’s 2024 first-round pick Seaver King had a promising start in Low-A last season, as well. Alex Clemmey, acquired in the Lane Thomas trade, has a fastball that can develop into triple-digit heat as he continues to add strength.
21. Cubs
Top 100 prospects: 2
Notable stars: Cade Horton, Moisés Ballesteros, James Triantos, Cristian Hernandez and Jaxon Wiggins
Intrigue factor: 50
The Cubs’ roster lacks star power without Matt Shaw, Owen Caissie and Kevin Alcántara. However, Moisés Ballesteros proved last season he has what it takes to produce at the plate with his power and hit tools, smashing 19 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A. Cade Horton’s lat injury derailed an important year for him, but the promise on his fastball and slider still put him in prime position to be a big league arm.
22. Orioles
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Samuel Basallo, Enrique Bradfield Jr., Vance Honeycutt, Dylan Beavers and Griff O’Ferrall
Intrigue factor: 50
The Orioles arguably recently had one of the best farm systems in baseball, but many of those prospects graduated or were traded to other teams. Nonetheless, Samuel Basallo and Enrique Bradfield Jr., two of the most exciting players in the organization, will appear in this game again.
23. Diamondbacks
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Demetrio Crisantes, Slade Caldwell, Ryan Waldschmidt, Druw Jones and Tommy Troy
Intrigue factor: 45
Demetrio Crisantes’ inclusion saved the D-backs from being at the bottom of the ranking list. He burst on to the scene in 2024 and has a 57-game on-base streak entering 2025, just nine games short of tying Mookie Betts’ MiLB record. Druw Jones and Tommy Troy, two of Arizona’s recent first-round draft picks, are looking to pick things up this season.
24. Cardinals
Top 100 prospects: 2
Notable stars: JJ Wetherholt, Quinn Mathews, Jimmy Crooks, Thomas Saggese and Cooper Hjerpe
JJ Wetherholt and Quinn Mathews are intriguing potential stars, but outside of that, there really isn’t anything eye-popping about this roster.
Intrigue factor: 40
25. Blue Jays
Top 100 prospects: 0
Notable stars: Arjun Nimmala, Trey Yesavage, Orelvis Martinez and Jake Bloss
Intrigue factor: 40
Toronto’s lone Top 100 Prospects representative, Ricky Tiedemann, is out injured. In fairness, the Blue Jays do have several players on the bubble, with Arjun Nimmala finding his footing in the second half of last season and Trey Yesavage, last year’s first-round pick, on the roster, as well.
26. Astros
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Cam Smith, Brice Matthews, Jacob Melton, Walker Janek and Miguel Ullola
Intrigue factor: 35
Cam Smith, acquired in the Kyle Tucker trade, is the most impressive bat in the lineup, followed by Brice Matthews and Jacob Melton. The pitching staff is bleak, but Miguel Ullola has premium stuff if he can fix his command.
27. Yankees
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: George Lombard Jr., Spencer Jones, Ben Hess, Bryce Cunningham and Roderick Arias
Intrigue factor: 35
George Lombard Jr. may not have the prettiest stats in 2024, but many people within the organization are still impressed with his well-rounded skillset. Outside of him and Spencer Jones, there really isn’t much that moves the needle on this roster.
28. Twins
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Luke Keaschall, Kaelen Culpepper, Brandon Winokur, Kyle DeBarge and Billy Amick
Intrigue factor: 30
Considering the Twins have four Top 100 Prospects, this is one of the most disappointing rosters, especially with Walker Jenkins missing time with an ankle sprain. However, Luke Keaschall is still a player to watch, as he batted a combined .303 between High-A and Double-A.
29. Angels
Top 100 prospects: 1
Notable stars: Christian Moore, George Klassen, Joswa Lugo, Nelson Rada and Ryan Johnson
Intrigue factor: 30
The Angels have had one of baseball’s weaker farm systems for a while. Christian Moore is a beacon of hope. He has the chance to go from playing in Spring Breakout to being on the Angels’ roster on Opening Day. George Klassen has electric stuff and has worked on simplifying his delivery.
30. Braves
Top 100 prospects: 0
Notable stars: JR Ritchie, Garrett Baumann and John Gil
Intrigue factor: 20
For the second consecutive year, the Braves clearly have the worst Spring Breakout roster. That said, we suggest getting familiar with JR Ritchie, who is primed for a big year in 2025.
