Rangers’ Alejandro Rosario Heads Into Big League Camp With Momentum

The undisputed breakthrough player last season in the Rangers’ system was righthander Alejandro Rosario. Heck, he was one of the game’s biggest breakthroughs in 2024.

Drafted in the fifth round in 2023 despite posting a 7.11 ERA in his final season at Miami, Rosario pitched to a 2.24 ERA across two Class A in 2024 and struck out 129 in 88.1 innings while walking just 13.

He did it with upper-90s velocity and a splitter that kept opposing hitters flailing. Rosario ascended to No. 3 in the Texas system and No. 49 on the Top 100 Prospects heading into 2025.

The Rangers invited the 23-year-old Rosario to big league spring training for the first time. The expectation is he will become a fixture in their rotation.

“It feels like I accomplished something this past offseason, but the job’s not done,” Rosario said. “It’s easy to have one good year. Now, what I’m trying to focus on is being more consistent and doing these things for the longevity of my career.”

The Rangers will likely send Rosario to Double-A Frisco to start the season, and they have enough depth in the system to not be tempted to rush him to the majors if a need arrives. He reached Frisco at the end of last season but did not pitch because of some fatigue.

He handled two levels with aplomb in 2024 and actually improved after jumping from Low-A Down East to High-A Hickory. He said the difference was throwing his curveball harder and finding a comfort zone with it at 85-87 mph.

Throw in his 80-grade makeup, and Rosario is poised to move quickly.

“I was grateful for the opportunity to experience what it is to be with guys who are already at a higher level,” Rosario said. “You see it as not a big step, but it’s a big step the way they prepare, the way they go about their business and the way they prepare for the game.”
