Top Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann will have Tommy John surgery on July 30, Toronto manager John Schneider told the media. The procedure will come after a season limited by injuries to just 17.1 innings, nearly half of which came in rehab outings in Low-A and Rookie ball. This comes after a 2023 season that saw Tiedemann, the team’s third-round pick in 2021, pitch just 44 innings in the regular season before a successful stint in the Arizona Fall League. The procedure will likely cost Tiedemann the rest of this season and most—if not all—of next year as well.
