After Frankie Montas was done with his two shutout innings, the Reds didn’t let off the gas. Instead, they poured more on the pile. Montas gave way to Connor Phillips, who owns one of the more overpowering mixes in the game. The former Mariners prospect struck out two and walked one over two hitless shutout frames. Later, Cincinnati called on burly righty Zach Maxwell, whose fastball is so explosive it may as well arrive at the plate sporting a half-charred wick. He threw a scoreless frame and retired all three hitters he faced.
