Triple-A Norfolk third baseman Coby Mayo homered on Friday night, moving to within one home run of MiLB leader Joey Loperfido. Mayo is now hitting .295/.366/.609. He also committed his sixth error of the season as a third baseman, as he threw wide on a play at second base. As good as Mayo’s season has been offensively, he has struggled defensively. At third base, he has struggled with throwing issues. Mayo had three throwing errors in the first two games of the season, and two since then. At first base, he’s made three errors in just seven games, as he’s booted a ground ball, failed to catch a fly ball and has thrown wide of second base after a ball dropped in short right field.
